Center for Complementary Medicine

Directed by Family Medicine faculty member Donald W. Novey, M.D., the Center for Complementary Medicine (CCM) offers the nation's first Complementary/Alternative medicine rotation in a family practice residency setting. The CCM offers an opportunity to work side-by-side with highly skilled practitioners in the fields of acupuncture, massage therapy, chiropractic, mind-body integration, holistic nutrition, homeopathic medicine, and herbs and supplements. The Center staff use a team approach model which provides an unparalleled learning opportunity and a chance to see integrative medicine at its best.

Family medicine residents enjoy two opportunities for contact with the Center.

First, the Center is located in the same building as our family practice residency's ambulatory care center. You will have many opportunities to refer patients for integrative medical evaluations or specific therapies during your residency. You will also have opportunities throughout your residency to discuss integrative approaches to medical problems during your normal precepting encounters when Dr. Novey is present.

Second, our family medicine residency program has received a major grant from the Oberweiler Foundation to expand and revise its existing complementary medicine residency rotation for medical students, residents and community physcians. This exciting rotation provides an enjoyable and comprehensive exposure to complementary medicine in all its aspects.
