How to Become a Family Physician
Our goal, simply, is to enable you to receive in three short years the training you need to succesfully transition to your own Family Medicine Practice. We do this by modeling a real-life practice environment in many ways, some obvious, some subtle.
Our program is designed to provide you with the training to become a great family physician. What does that mean? Once you have completed this training, it is our sincerest aim that you will be able to:
- Provide readily available, competent, comprehensive, continuing primary care with the focus on the family as the unit of care.
- Identify and manage common health problems and confidently perform those procedures which are required in primary care.
- Learn the limits of your knowledge, and arrange for consultation and delegation of health care needs outside your competence.
- Be skilled in establishing and maintaining relationships with families to maximize the delivery of good health care.
- Learn to establish rapport with your patients in order to better understand and manage their physical, psychosocial and emotional problems.
- Learn to think therapeutically, paying attention to those aspects of the doctor patient relationship that benefit the patient and the family.
Family Medicine is a great career!
